4. An interesting fact!

Why do the British drive on the left?

About a quarter of the world drives on the left. Mostly in old British colonies*, like Australia. But why? In the old days, people had swords*. Most people were righthanded. (They usually used their right hands.) So they walked or rode on the left. Then their sword hand was between them and a person coming the opposite way.
In France, it was different. Napoleon was left-handed. So his soldiers* walked on the right. Later, French colonies drove on the right. After 1776 the US and France were friends, so Americans drove on the right. Americans made good cars. People in lots of countries bought them and drove on the right too.
